LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: HORSEHEADS TOPS LIVERPOOL TO REACH SECTIONAL FINAL (2023-07-17)
Southern Tier Sports ReportBALDWINSVILLE — The Horseheads Majors Little League team beat Liverpool 9-7 on Monday to get into the sectional final.
Horseheads takes on Maine-Endwell in the final at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Horseheads has to win twice, while Maine-Endwell needs one win to claim the title.
Horseheads trailed 4-1 after one inning and after the top of the third they trailed 6-1. They scored five runs in the third to tie the game and scored three in the fifth to take the lead.
Ian Ferraro had two hits, with a double, and three RBI and Connor Walton and Adrian Rijo each had two hits in the game. Walton scored three runs and Rijo had three RBI and two runs scored.
Bradyn Hourihan had a hit, a run and an RBI and Jackson Bell, Kellan Berry and Mikey Zifchock all had hits. Zifchock also scored a run and Nolan Manwaring had an RBI.
Ethan Hicks started and got two outs, striking out one. Rijo came in relief and worked the final 5 1/3 innings, striking out seven and allowing just six hits and three runs.
