HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' GOLF: CREATH, LAHIRI HELP SECTION 4 SIT SECOND AS A SECTION AFTER ONE DAY OF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (20 PHOTOS) (2023-06-04)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA — With gusting win causing all the scores to be higher on the day, a pair of Corning golfers have helped Section IV sit second at the NYSPHSAA Golf Championships at Mark Twain Golf Course on Sunday.

Jack Creath shot a round of 84 on the day, 12-over, and Nishant Lahiri shot 87 on the day, 15-over.

Creath is just three shots off top 25 as many golfers are bunched together.

It’s a pair of Section IV golfers at the top of the pack as Grady Glennon of Hunter-Tonnersville leads at even-par 72 and Dante Bertoni of Union-Endicott is second at 73.

Section IV sits second at 554, 50-over for the tournament. Section V leads at 539, 35-over-par.

Creath is tied for 52nd on the day and Lahiri is tied for 75th. Creath started on the back, and shot 40, and he had a 44 on the front. He had birdies on 12 and 17. Lahiri shot 42 on the back and 45 on the front, starting on the back nine.

The wind gusts were enough to blow balls off greens, and push shots off line. Lahiri teed off on 10 and his second shot landed on the front of the green. It sat on the green for about two minutes until the wind picked up and blew it down off the green. That was a common theme for golfers throughout the day with the wind.
