COLLEGE BASEBALL: STEWART DOMINANT AS MASON BASEBALL REACHES FIRST REGIONAL FINAL (2023-06-04)

Notre Dame graduate Owen Stewart turned in a dominant relief effort as the George Mason baseball team rallied for a 11-10 walk-off win over Maryland on Sunday afternoon to reach the regional final.

Stewart worked 5 2/3 innings striking out four and allowing four hits and two runs. as George Mason won the game at an NCAA Regional in Winston-Salem. Connor Dykstra drove in five runs for Mason and Brett Stallings had the game-winning hit.

The Patriots advanced to the Regional Final for the first time in program history. Mason has won two games in one NCAA Tournament for the first time.

The Patriots recorded their 36th win of the season, the most for the program since 2009.

After Maryland scored three runs in the fourth they led 8-3 and that’s when Stewart, a freshman from Notre Dame, entered the game in the fourth and settled the game down.

The Patriots offense responded in the bottom of the fourth scoring seven runs to vault into the lead 10-8.

Stewart has a 3.94 ERA in his freshman year. He’s been dominant in the postseason for Mason. His last postseason performance was in the A-10 final when he worked five innings of two-hit, shutout relief. Over his last two outings he’s worked 10 2/3 innings with six strikeouts and six hits and two runs allowed.
