HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: BLUE RAIDERS HAVE TWO STATE QUALIFIERS AFTER FIRST DAY OF STATE QUALS (19 PHOTOS) (2023-05-31)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ENDICOTT — The Horseheads track and field team had a pair of state qualifiers on the first day of the Section IV Track and Field State Qualifier on Wednesday at Union-Endicott High School.

Noah Ruffer had hit the super standard in the pentathlon earlier this year, so he made states just by competing on Wednesday, and Tess Eisner won the long jump with a PR to make states.

Eisner won the long jump at 17-feet, 5 1/2-inches, winning by a foot and a half.

“Really good it was a PR so overall a good feeling,” Eisner said.

The hot weather made for a good jumping day for the Horseheads standout.

“It was pretty hot and I was actually kind of nervous at the beginning, I had to go between the 100 and the long jump so I was a little stressed if I could get my jump in,” Eisner said. “But, I did and it worked.

“I ended up doing my first jump before the 100 after my legs felt fine and I felt warmed up for all my jumps.”

Now it’s onto states for Eisner.

“Hopefully I can keep it going,” Eisner said.

There are some things that the Horseheads jumper wants to work on before states.

“Probably my landing and building up speed going in,” Eisner said.

Ruffer leads the pentathlon at 1,923 points through three events. Sophia Cipolla is sixth in the girls’ pentathlon through three events at 1,212 points.

Eisner is sixth in the 100 prelims to make the final in 13.05.

In the girls’ 3000 Taylor Tremba was 17th in 12:10.76.

In the 800 CeCe Cowen was sixth in 2:28.24 and Milo Grow was 16th in 2:34.96, while Samantha Oakes finished 22nd in 2:43.91.

In the boys’ 800 Kiran Gulati was 10th in 2:02.62.

Bradock Salisbury was fourth in the 400 in 50.89 and in the 110 hurdles Carlo Cipolla was 13th in 17.29.

MayAnnda Sindlinger was 21st in the 100 hurdles in 19.03 and in the 200 Seth Wilsoncroft was 10th in 23.21.

Isabella Rivera was 18th in the shot put at 26-feet, 10 1/2-inches and Oakes was 18th in the long jump at 13-feet, 6 1/4-inches.

Alexus Borek was 19th in the 400 hurdles for the girls in 1:16.28 and Sindlinger was 24th in 1:22.05. Nolan Cruise was 16th in the boys’ 400 hurdles in 1:03.36.
