CORNING — Hannah Smith threw three touchdowns and ran for one more, and the defense was opportunistic all night as the Corning flag football team beat Vestal, 33-6.

Smith threw for three touchdowns and ran for one. Hannah Nichols caught a touchdown pass and hauled in three extra point conversions.

Brooke Johnston had three interceptions and a touchdown on the day and Jayda Felker had an interception, while Grace Robertson had a touchdown in the game.

“Winning is always great and tonight was awesome because we just went out there and did what we know how to do,” Felker said. “I think it being our fourth game we are starting to figure out the entire game and starting to work together as a team and I couldn’t have asked for better teammates to play with.”

Corning got off to a 13-0 lead, before Vestal got on the board with a long touchdown pass.

With a 13-6 lead, Corning outscored Vestal 20-0 the rest of the way. They scored six points to end the first half and then added 14 second-half points in the win.

The Hawks are now 2-2 on the season. Corning is at Ithaca on Monday and at Union-Endicott on Tuesday, before hosting Elmira on Saturday.
