HIGH SHCOOL SOFTBALL: HAWKS NON-LEAGUE GAME WITH NPL SUSPENDED DUE TO DARKNESS (2023-04-26)

CORNING — The Corning Hawks played a little bonus softball on Wednesday, but darkness prevented the game from being completed.

The game was suspended in the top of the 10th inning when the international tiebreaker rule came into play.

With the game tied at six after nine innings, North Penn-Liberty started with a runner at second. NP-Liberty homered to make the score 8-6 with one out and a 3-2 count on the batter. The game was then suspended due to darkness.

If the game is able to be resumed it will begin at the point of suspension. If it’s unable to be rescheduled the game reverts back to a 6-6 tie.

Corning got a first-inning run, but NPL tied it an inning later. IN the fourth and fifth Corning got runs to go up 3-1, but NPL got two in the sixth to tie the game. Corning scored in the bottom of the sixth to tie things, but NPL scored two in the seventh to take the lead for the first time. Corning then tied things in the bottom of the seventh.

Both teams got runs in the eighth.

Sophia Polzella was 3-for-3 with a home run, an RBI and three runs scored and Kayleigh Parks was 4-for-5 with an RBI, a run scored and a double.

Lily MacNeal had a triple and scored a run and Lauren DeRosa had a double.

Kendall Curreri had a hit and two RBI and Courtney Searfoss had a hit and an RBI, while Hayden Robertson had a hit.

Kristen Gargano scored a run in the game.

Peyton Sullivan struck out seven in 9 1/3 innings. Mackenzie Tice struck out 13 in nine innings for NPL.

McKenna Lightner had the home run in the 10th and also had a double for NPL. She had two RBI and a run scored.

Alexia Kshir had three hits and scored a run and Saige Lehman had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Tice had two hits and a run scored.
