HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS WRAPS UP TIME AT GRAND STRAND CLASSIC IN MYRTLE BEACH (2023-04-05)
Southern Tier Sports ReportMYRTLE BEACH, SC — The Horseheads softball team were edged in a pair of games on Wednesday to wrap up their trip to the Grand Strand Classic in Myrtle Beach.
Horseheads fell to McDowell High School 5-1, then were edged by the University Hawks 6-5 in the second game Wednesday.
Against McDowell the Blue Raiders got a solo home run from Megan Wolf in the loss.
Sophia Bonnell, Rachel Lunger and Bella Giammichele all had hits for Horseheads in the game.
Maddie Matkosky struck out two in three innings and Emily Huntley struck out two in three innings of relief.
In the game against the University Hawks the Blue Raiders struck first with three first-inning runs. However, University got three runs in the second.
Horseheads went back up 4-3 in the third, but University tied things in the fourth.
Horseheads again took the lead in the fifth, but University answered in the bottom half of the inning, before University won the game in the bottom of the seventh.
Molly Wolf was 3-for-3 in the game with two triples and a double, three RBI and two runs scored.
Matkosky had a double and an RBI and Lunger, Kailey McCormick, Giammichele and Katie Morse all had hits in the game
Sophia Bonnell scored two runs and Caitlin Yearick had an RBI.
Lacy Baker went four innings on the mound, striking out two and Megan Wolf went 2 1/3 innings of one-hit, one run ball in relief.
