HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: ND OPENS SEASON AGAINST NEWARK VALLEY (22 PHOTOS) (2023-03-28)

TIOGA — The Notre Dame boys and girls track and field teams kicked off the season on Tuesday as the girls were edged by Newark Valley 65-60 and the boys fell 99-14.

There were four teams at the meet, Notre Dame, Newark Valley, Tioga and Candor, with Newark Valley and Notre Dame squaring off, while Tioga took on Candor.

Makenna Keough won the 100 hurdles for Notre Dame in 17.2 while Zoey McClelland took third in 18.5.

In the 100 meters Charlotte Welliver finished second in 17.2 and Piper Young won the 1500 in 5:32.6.

Caroline Horton won the 800 in 2:56.4 and Claire Devlin won the 200 in 30.5.

Young won the 3000 meters in 15:08 and the Crusaders won the 1600 relay in 4:51.

Moore won the shot put at 26-feet, 1-inch and Welliver was third at 21-feet, 2 1/2-inches. Moore was second in the discus at 54-feet, 8-inches and Shannon Craig was third at 45-feet, 7-inches.

Keough won the long jump at 15-feet, 4 1/2-inches followed by Devlin at 14-feet, 7-inches. Keough also won the triple jump at 33-feet, 4 1/2-inches followed by Devlin at 30-feet, 8 3/4-inches.

Isabella Mashewski was second in the high jump at 4-feet, 4-inches.

Mario Cagetti was third for the boys in the 100 meters in 14.9 and Gavin Meier was second in the 1600 meters in 5:35.3.

Cagetti was third in the 200 meters in 33.5. Meier won the 3200 meters in 13:24.2.

Meier was second in the long jump at 13-feet, 3-inches followed by Cagetti at 11-feet, 5-inches.
