HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' LACROSSE: BLUE RAIDERS LEAD EARLY, BUT VESTAL USES BIG THIRD QUARTER TO NOTCH WIN (24 PHOTOS) (2023-03-29)

Southern Tier Sports Report
HORSEHEADS — A big third quarter by Vestal proved to be the difference as the Horseheads Blue Raiders fell 11-5 in their home opener in a rematch of last year’s sectional final.

Horseheads jumped out to a 3-1 lead early behind two goals by Braden Woodworth, but Vestal outscored the Blue Raiders 5-0 in the third quarter of the win.

“I thought we came out and played a great first half,” Horseheads coach Jason Neubauer said. “We lost our composure and were very undisciplined when they made a run in the third. We need to learn from the loss and get better quick before Friday (Ithaca). Congrats to Vestal on the win.”

Garrett Elston had three assists in the game and both Woodworth and Alex Johanson had two goals each in the game.

Zach Lese had two assists for Horseheads and Domanik West finished with one goal.

Andrew Potter had 10 saves for Horseheads and Jacob Fifield had two saves.

Braden McMahon finished with two goals and three assists for Vestal and Xavier Shuler had four goals.

Evan Myers had two goals and an assist and Graham Sholett had two goals, while Sam Baek had a goal in the game.
