THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING DUO SHARES 'BOYS BOWLER OF YEAR' HONORS; ELMIRA'S D'ANGELO, CROUT ALSO EARN TOP HONORS (2023-03-29)

It was a big season for area bowlers. There was a team state title, multiple teams qualifying for States, and State individual medalists.

It led to a very strong and deep The Sports Reports All-Region boys’ bowling team.

There is a first and a second team, and the talent was so deep that every bowler who made All-Region had at least a 191 average this year.

Corning’s Joseph Enderle and Cameron Kennedy share the “Bowler of the Year” honors.

Enderle led all of Section 4 with a 224 average this season, while Kennedy was a state qualifier, who finished fifth at the state championships. He averaged 215 on the year.

The “Newcomer of the Year” is Frankie D’Angelo of Elmira. D’Angelo averaged 194 this year and helped guide Elmira to the state team title this year.

Elmira coach Tim Crout is the “Coach of the Year” after guiding the Express to the first state championship in any sport in Elmira Express history, and just the second state title in Elmira School District history, the first was Southside bowling.

The first team includes Enderle and Kennedy, as well as Waverly’s Zach Vanderpool. Corning’s Camryn Stefanini and Horseheads’ Michael Rennells are on first team with Owego’s Connor Kotski, Evan O’Hara and Cole Dalton and Edison’s Zack Crown and Elmira’s Alex Smith, who was second among all individuals in the team portion of the state championships to lead Elmira to the Division I title.

The second team features Alex Gublo, Skylar Shadduck, Trent Belloma and D’A/ngelo of Elmira and John Flacco of Newark Valley. Waverly’s Ashton Pritchard, Edison’s Logan Card, Waverly’s Derek Jonson, Horseheads’ Ayden Tito, Will Wldron of Owego and Matt Hoffman-Bellucci.
