HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' LACROSSE: CORNING LOOKS TO START SECTIONAL TITLE DEFENSE AS THEY OPEN SEASON ON THE ROAD (2023-03-27)

After overcoming their rival Ithaca for a sectional title a year ago, the Corning Hawks are back at work this season preparing to defend that title.

The Hawks kick off their season tonight when they travel to Seton Catholic.

Returning athletes: Brookelyn Batzing, Jenna DiNardo, Piper Emmick, Katie Grottenthaler, Riley Keeler, Maddie Wood, Ashlee Volpe
Comments on returning athletes: Our returning players bring a great deal of athleticism and experience.  More important is the passion and excitement they bring to the team and the sport.  They are great leaders committed to improving themselves while also making players around them better.  Everyday is fun and our time together goes way too fast. 
Newcomers:  Courtney Castellana, Riley Dollard, Audrey Hart, Makenna Morse, Paige Stansfield
Thoughts on newcomers: Our juniors have done an amazing job so far working hard and learning the roles that they will be asked to play this season.  They are extremely coachable, they welcome feedback from coaches and returners and add to our team chemistry in a positive way. 
Thoughts on the team this year: I love how selfless and committed to the team the players are.  While we return some of the top talent in the league we are also  young as a team.  With 4 seniors I couldn't ask for a better senior class to set examples and leave their imprint on the younger players.  I'm most excited to see how this group builds its chemistry with each other through the season.
