HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: BLUE RAIDERS SET TO OPEN SEASON ON THE ROAD IN CORNING (2023-03-27)

The Horseheads track and field team has some new coaches as they get ready to kick off the season at Corning today.

The Blue Raiders have a strong mix of returning athletes and newcomers as they begin the year.

Coaches name:  Clara Bates and Samantha Bancroft
Assistants: Alexa Houper and Kim Balliet
Returning athletes: Most of our athletes are returners, we are lucky to have such dedicated athletes and strong program they keep coming back to.
Comments on returning athletes: We are excited to see the returns continue to progress and develop as athletes. Each season is a chance for PRs, achieving milestones, and enhancing skills and abilities. Track is really unique in that we have a group of athletes who trains consistently towards these goals throughout the year and the progress they make is astounding!
Key athletes to watch: Samir Gulati (So.), Noah Ruffer (Sr.), Bradock Salisbury (Jr.); Alexus Borek (Fr.); Tess Eisner (Sr.)
Newcomers: We have a strong freshmen class as well as some sophomores, juniors and seniors who are joining the team for the first time.
Thoughts on newcomers: We welcome newcomers, many of them are athletes coming up from the modified level or who have played other sports but are transitioning to track and field. There is so much potential for them to develop as athletes during the spring season. We feel lucky to have them join our program and look forward to seeing how they progress!
Thoughts on the league this year: There is always a high level of competition with each meet and invitational but also an overwhelming amount of support from our track community. As a new coaching staff everyone has been very welcoming and supportive from fellow coaches, to the community, and our athletes.
