CORNING — The Niagara County Community College baseball team got big contributions from three local players as they spoiled the season opener for Corning Community College on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader.

Niagara CCC won 12-1 and 15-1, both games in five innings, to sweep the doubleheader.

Niagara County Community College got extra base hits from all three local players on the team.

Elmira graduate Matthew Coon hit a monstrous three-run home run in the second game, crushing the ball off the bleachers in deep center field. He also had a ground rule double in the first game. Coon also had a bases loaded walk to score a run in the first game.

Horseheads graduate Matthew Procopio had doubles in both games, a ground rule double in the second game, and he also had another hit in the second game. Procopio reached base each time he came to the plate in the second game.

Horseheads grad Riley Loomis had a two-run double in the first game for Niagara CCC.

CCC got a hit, and a run scored, by a Horseheads graduate in the second game as Alex Chrisman scored in the game.

Corning graduate Kevin House scored the run in the first game for Corning Community College.

Notre Dame’s Cam Johnson started both games in left field for CCC and RJ Priestley of Corning started both games in right field.

Zack Nelson of Corning pitched in the first game and played first base in both games and Balin Clark of Elmira pitched in the first game.

Horseheads’ Gavin Zelko, who went to Twin Tiers Christian Academy, also plays for CCC.
