COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CORNING GRAD BENNETT OFF TO DOMINANT START FOR LEMOYNE (2023-03-19)

Corning graduate Laura Bennett is off to a dominant start to the season, posting a 1.31 ERA through 75 innings this year and leading the LeMoyne softball team to five straight wins.

Bennett has struck out 86 in 75 innings this year against just 11 walks on the year.

LeMoyne has won five straight games Bennett has played in and seven of the past eight. Overall they have won four straight and six of the past seven.

Over the past five starts Bennett has made she has thrown 27 2/3 innings, allowing four runs and striking out 28 batters.

Over the past eight appearances by Bennett, with the team going 7-1, Bennett has thrown 42 2/3 innings, allowing just five runs and striking out 46 batters. Bennett has a strikeout to walk ratio of 46-4 during that stretch.

Bennett has allowed no runs in five of her past eight appearances. She threw a complete gamefive-hit shutout, with 10 strikeouts, against St. Thomas Aquinas on Thursday. On Friday she allowed three hits, striking out seven in four innings. That same day she struck out five and allowed three runs in seven innings.

On Saturday she went a season-best eighth innings, striking out four and allowing just one run.

She also had complete game shutouts earlier this year against Lincoln Memorial, striking out three in a five-hit, no earned run start, and striking out eight in a no-earned run start against Molloy a week ago.

LeMoyne is 10-9 on the year and they hosts D’Youville, who includes Edison’s Mikayla Bush, on Tuesday in a doubleheader.
