Southern Tier Sports Report
A team state championship, an individual runner-up and an individual fifth-place finisher at states.

Overall it was a dominant season for area bowling, which made for some tough decisions when it came to the All-Southern Tier Bowling teams.

In the end a Horseheads star leads the Terrific 10 Girls’ Bowling team of the year, while a pair of Corning Hawks headline the Terrific 10 boys’ bowling team.

BOYS’ BOWLING
A pair of Corning bowlers headline the Terrific 10 All-Southern Tier Sports Report all-star team as the co-boys’ bowlers of the year.

Joseph Enderle was the top bowler all season in Section 4, while teammate Cameron Kennedy was the second best bowler on the team throughout the season, and then was absolutely dominant in the postseason.

Enderle led Section 4 with a 224 average on the season. However, he just missed making states at the state qualifier, while teammate Kennedy, who averaged 215 on the year, went to states and finished fifth at the state meet. Kennedy shot a 6-game score of 1,341.

Frankie D’Angelo of Elmira is the newcomer of the year. The seventh-grader averaged 194 this year, and he came up huge in the state tournament, striking out in the 10th of the final game to help Elmira clinch the state title.

The coach of the year for the boys is Tim Crout of Elmira. He helped guide the Express to the state title, and this comes just a few years after he helped Section 4 win the composite state title, making him the first Section 4 coach to lead a team to the composite state title and a team state title during their careers.

The Terrific 10 includes Enderle and Kennedy, along with eight others, including four more from Elmira

Elmira’s Alex Smith (207.90 average), Alex Gublo (203), Skylar Shadduck (201) and Trent Belloma (197) all are on the Terrific 10 team.

Horseheads’ Michael Rennells is on the Terrific 10 team with a 212.13 average this year and Corning’s Camryn Stefanini is on the team with a 213 average.

Edison has a pair of bowlers on the team as Zack Crown averaged 208 this year and Logan Card averaged 195 on the year.

GIRLS
Horseheads’ Emily Huntley had an absolutely dominant season for the Blue Raiders.

She led Section 4 with a 212.11 average this year. Then, she went to states and average 221 over 6 games, shooting 1,326 to finish second in the state. She also had the second best game of the day at states with a 266. How good was Huntley? She would have placed 14th out of everyone at states all weekend, boys and girls in all divisions.

Huntley is this year’s All-STSR bowler of the year. And, this year we are doing an overall bowler of the year, between the boys and girls, and that’s Huntley as well as she was absolutely dominant all season long, not only among the girls, but her scores would have had her as one of the highest averages on the boys side this year.

Elmira’s Abigail Hink is the newcomer of the year. The Express bowler averaged 166 on the season and helped the team take fifth in the state.

Elmira coach Tim Crout is the coach of the year for the girls. He helped guide the Express to a title at the state qualifier and a fifth-place finish at states. He guided both the Elmira boys and girls to titles at the state qualifier this year.

The rest of the Terrific 10, which includes both Huntley and Hink, also includes four other Elmira bowlers, as all of their top five made the team.

Elmira’s Madison Smith (187.84 average), Hayle Avery (177.23), Arabella Wood (164) and Abigail Cunningham (156) were all on the Terrific 10 team.

Horseheads’ Mackenzie Minor is on the Terrific 10 team with an average of 185.53 this year, while Corning’s Briannah Evans (168) and Hanna Millhollen (166) are on the team.

Notre Dame’s Jade Nordin (154) is on the Terrific 10 list.
