COLLEGE SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS, CORNING GRADUATES MEET IN DIVISION 1 MATCHUP (2023-03-15)

A pair of locals squared off at the Division I level as Horseheads graduate Ali Richmond and the Binghamton softball team split four games in Virginia against Ellie DeRosa of Corning and the George Mason softball team.

The teams played a doubleheader Saturday with George Mason winning 3-2 and then the nightcap 4-3.

DeRosa had hits in all four games and Richmond had hits in three of the four games. DeRosa had the walk-off hit in the first game. It was the second career walk-off hit by DeRosa, who had a walk-off run rule victory hit against Saint Francis last weekend.

In the first game Richmond was 1-for-3 with a run scored and DeRosa was also 1-for-3 with a double.

In the nightcap Saturday Richmond was 1-for-3 and DeRosa was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On Sunday Binghamton won 6-4 and 13-5.

Richmond was 1-for-4 with a run scored, a double and three RBI. DeRosa was 1-for-2.

Richmond has started all 17 games this year and has two home runs, 12 RBI and eight runs scored. She has hits in five of the past six games and 7 of the past nine.

DeRosa leads George Mason with a .440 average this year, starting all 18 games. She has a home run, four triples, five doubles, 11 RBI and seven runs scored. DeRosa ranks among the top 10 in freshmen batting average and fourth overall in the nation in triples.
