HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ABRAMS HAS SEASON-HIGH 41, ROSS HITS GO-AHEAD THREE AS ELMIRA TOPS JAMESTOWN (2023-01-21)

JAMESTOWN — Jalea Abrams had a season-high 41 points, Payton Ross hit a go-ahead three and the Elmira girls’ basketball team picked up a crucial road win at Jamestown, 73-72.

“Today was a great team win,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “Opening the game down 10-0, we regained our composure and continued to fight back. Payton hit a huge three after they took the lead late. And, then we made the stop we needed to preserve the game.

“We still have to work on consistency. But, after two straight losses, I loved the effort and energy today. And, it’s a nice bounce back after a couple tough losses.”

Abrams had four threes and was 7-for-9 from the foul line. She had 15 points in the second quarter and then she had eight points in the final quarters.

Abrams had at least eight points in each quarter of the game. She had seven steals, six rebounds and four assists in the game.

Ellie Clearwater had 10 points for Elmira, with a pair of threes. Ross and Caitlyn Wagner each had eight points. Ross had two threes, including the go-ahead three with 30 seconds left to give the Express the win. Clearwater had eight assists, five boards and three steals and Ross had 11 boards, seven assists and three steals.

Ja’Nyah Harris had six points for Elmira in the game.

Jamestown led 23-18 after one quarter, but Elmira came back to outscore Jamestown 24-9 in the second quarter of the win.
