ELMIRA — The Notre Dame girls jumped out to an early lead and rolled to a 51-29 victory over Seton Catholic in the opening round of the Josh Palmer Fund Clarion Classic.

Notre Dame quickly took a double digit lead in the opening quarter and never trailed on their way to the victory.

“I think our team came out very prepared for this game tonight,” Notre Dame’s Shannon Maloney said. “We worked very well together and once we got up we were even able to try things we haven’t much of this season. It is also our program’s first time beating Seton Catholic in a while, so this is exciting for us also.”

Maloney had 18 points in the game, and Mallory Sheehan had 17 points, including a pair of threes in the contest.

Maloney had a double-double, adding 13 rebounds, along with four steals.

Lawson Bigelow had eight points and seven rebounds in the game and Allie O’Brien had five points, two steals and three boards, while Ava Mustico had five points and six steals.

Seton Catholic got nine points from Alexandra Back, while Erin Derr had seven points and five boards.

Emerald Cole had four points and Marielle Searles had three points. Molly Burke, Mary Redmore and Anika Smith all had two points in the game.

With the win Notre Dame will face Ithaca in the final at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.

“We are very excited for the final,” Maloney said. “I’m sure it will be a competitive game, but we are very much looking forward to it.”
