NEWARK VALLEY — The Edison girls basketball team faced a tough test to start the year, taking on the reigning state runner-up in Class C Newark Valley on the road, falling 62-36.

Peyton Littlefield had 12 points, five in the first quarter, and three threes to lead the Spartans in the game.

Gianna McGee hit three threes for nine points, two of the threes coming in the second quarter.

Charles Stroman had six points in the game.

Cha Gardner led Newark Valley with 22 points and Hayley Beebe finished with 14 points.
