THE WEEK AHEAD: WINTER SPORTS SEASON GETS UNDERWAY (2022-11-27)

The winter season gets going this week with 20 events on the schedule this week, including eight matchups on Saturday.

While area basketball teams begin the week with some scrimmages, the regular season gets going later in the week, and the regular season also starts for wrestling swimming and diving and bowling this week.

Here’s a day-by-day look at what’s on the schedule, including how many events each day.

MONDAY (2)
* The Horseheads bowling team hosts Elmira at Corning’s Crystal Lanes, while Corning plays host to Union-Endicott.

TUESDAY (2)
* The Elmira swimming and diving team is home for their first meet of the year, while Horseheads is at Binghamton.
* The Edison bowling team hosts Tioga.

WEDNESDAY (5)
* The Corning bowling team is at Vestal, Elmira is home with Maine-Endwell, Notre Dame is at Union Springs and Horseheads is at Johnson City.
* The Corning wrestling team opens the season at Ithaca.

THURSDAY (2)
* The Elmira wrestling team is at Vestal to start the season.
* The Notre Dame bowling team hosts Watkins Glen.

FRIDAY (5)
* The Notre Dame boys’ basketball team is at Whitney Point, while Edison is at the Lansing tip-off tournament.
* The Notre Dame girls’ basketball team hosts Whitney Point, while Horseheads is at Newark Valley.
* The Horseheads wrestling team hosts a tournament.

SATURDAY (8)
* The Corning boys’ cross country team, along with Sarah Lawson on the girls side, and Vicky Mordvinova of Elmira head to Portland, Oregon for Nike Nationals.
* The Corning bowling team is at Midway Lanes.
* The Corning swimming and diving team is at the Hilton Invite.
* The Elmira and Edison wrestling teams are at Newark Valley and Horseheads hosts their tournament.
* The Elmira boys basketball team hosts Cicero-North Syracuse, Notre Dame hosts Delhi and Edison is at day two of the Lansing tip-off tourney.
