Four teams had state qualifiers this year, while two earned state medals, and the Corning girls matched their best ever finish with a fourth-place finish at the state meet.
Sarah Lawson of Corning led the way this year as a sixth-place finisher at states and she is the All-Southern Tier Sports Report Runner of the Year.
Lawson won the Section 4 and STAC titles and ran an 18:02.60 at states to take fourth, her second state medal. She also helped Corning tie the west finish in school history with the fourth-place finish.
Elmira eighth-grader Ella Devlin was a state qualifier in her first year of varsity. She was a fifth-place finisher at sectionals, sixth at the STAC meet and 51st at the state championships, the fourth highest finisher of any Section 4 runner at states.
All of that makes Devlin the newcomer of the year.
Corning coach Ray Lawson coached the Hawks to STAC and Section 4 titles and fourth at states and he is the coach of the year.

ELITE EIGHT FIRST TEAM
Sarah Lawson, Corning: State medalist. Took sixth in the state in 18:02.60. Section 4 champion and STAC Champion. Helped Corning tie the best finish in school history with a fourth-place finish at states.
Vicky Mordvinova, Elmira: State medalist. 16th in the state in 19:23. Sectional runner-up. STAC third place finisher.
Mackenzie Baker, Horseheads: State qualifier. 60th in the state. Sectional 7th place finisher. Ninth at the STAC Championships.
Ella Devlin, Elmira: State qualifier. 51st in the state. Sectional fifth-place finisher and sixth at the STAC meet.
Sadie Beres, Corning: Part of the fourth-place finish by Corning at states. Fourth at sectionals. Seventh in the STAC and 65th at states.
Payton Ross, Elmira: A ninth-place finisher at sectionals, missing states by one spot.
Cassandra Collins, Corning: 11th at the Section 4 Championships. Helped Corning to a fourth-place finish at states. 70th in the state. Finished 11th at the STAC meet.
Lauren Roche, Corning: A sixth place finisher at sectionals. Part of the Hawks fourth-place team at states. 67th in the state. Eighth at the STAC meet.
SUPER SEVEN SECOND TEAM
Taylor Farrell, Corning: A 12th place finisher at sectionals. A 19th place finisher at the STAC Championships. Helped Corning to a fourth-place finish at states. 80th in the state.
Ella Grinnell, Corning: A 13th place finisher at sectionals. A 13th place finisher at the STAC Championships. Helped Corning to a fourth-place finish at states. 73rd in the state.
Meghan McLaughlin, Corning: A 14th place finisher at sectionals. A 21st place finisher at the STAC Championships. Helped Corning to a fourth-place finish at states. 82nd in the state.
Faith Tubbs, Corning: A 17th place finisher at sectionals. A 24th place finisher at the STAC Championships. Helped Corning to a STAC and sectional title.
Olivia Murch, Corning: 16th at the STAC Championships. 18th at Sectionals.
Taylor Tremba, Horseheads: 31st at the STAC Championships. 23rd at sectionals.
Piper Young, ND: State qualifier. 6th at sectionals in Class D. 46th in the state. Sixth at the IAC Championships. A four-time state qualifier in her career.
