ALL-STSR BOYS' XC: BANGE NAMED RUNNER OF YEAR, MALONEY NEWCOMER OF YEAR AND LAWSON COACH OF YEAR AS CORNING SWEEPS FIRST TEAM (2022-11-22)

The Corning boys brought home their second straight state title and the Hawks make up all seven spots on the Super Seven first team for the All-Southern Tier Sports Report cross country all-star team.

Corning’s Ashton Bange had another dominant year and is the runner of the year. Bange finished seventh in the state in 16:19.50. He won the sectional meet, and he won the STAC Championships.

Gavin Meier of Notre Dame was 14th at the IAC Championships as an eighth-grader to earn second-team IAC all-star honors.

Meier finished 23rd at the Section 4, Class D Championships.

After helping to guide the Hawks to their second straight state title, along with winning sectionals and the STAC meet, Corning coach Ray Lawson is the coach of the year.

Here’s a look at the Super Seven first and Super Seven second-team all-stars.

BOYS’ RUNNER OF THE YEAR: Ashton Bange, Corning
NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Gavin Meier, Notre Dame

SUPER SEVEN FIRST TEAM
Ashton Bange, Corning:
A state medalist, taking seventh at states in 16:19.50. A sectional champion for the second straight year. A STAC Champion. Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team.

Tevin McLaren, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Finished 32nd at states. A sectional runner-up. Ninth at the STAC meet.

Marcus Homa, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Finished 37th at states. Fourth at sectionals. 12th at the STAC meet.

DJ Cornfield, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Fifth at sectionals. 35th at the state meet and Third at the STAC meet.

Gabe Cornfield, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Finished 18th at states to earn a state medal in 16:51. 16th at sectionals. Fourth at the STAC meet.

Jaxyn Mahoney, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Finished 80th at states. Seventh-place finisher at sectionals and 11th at the STAC meet.

Joshua Beres, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. Finished 59th at states. 10th at the STAC meet.

SUPER SEVEN SECOND TEAM
Aidan Kahabka, Corning:
A 19th place finisher at sectionals to help lead the Hawks to a title. 29th at the STAC meet.

Gregory Homa, Corning: Helped lead Corning to a second straight state title as a team. A 12th place finisher at sectionals. 23rd at the STAC meet.

Sebastian Boutwell, Corning:
  A 20th place finisher at sectionals to help lead the Hawks to a title. 31st at the STAC meet.

Kiran Gulati, Horseheads: Finished 22nd at the sectional meet and 21st at the STAC meet.

Caleb Belanger, Elmira:
A 24th place finish at sectionals and 19th at the STAC meet.

Cael Owen, Horseheads:
A 26th place finish at sectionals and 33rd at the STAC meet.

Jha’Micque Bell, Elmira:
A 27th place finish at sectionals and 46th at the STAC meet.
