COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY: HORSEHEADS GRAD SWARTZ NAMED NEW CCC XC COACH (2022-11-14)

Casey Swartz takes over the SUNY CCC Men's and Women's Cross-Country programs for former head coach Dr. Matt Skerritt, who resigned from his coaching position at the end of the 2022 season after helping restart the program and providing five seasons of coaching for the Red Barons.

Casey brings a plethora of experience as both a high school and collegiate student-athlete. A graduate from Horseheads High School in 2012 where he competed in cross country and track and field for the Blue Raiders running the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m races. Coach Swartz headed to SUNY Fredonia where he competed as a student-athlete in both cross country and track and field where he ran the 5000m. After college, Casey continued his running career by competing in 5 half marathons and 4 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2019.

Casey graduated from SUNY Fredonia with a bachelors in exercise science and a minor in athletic coaching. Swartz also attended Genesee Community College after SUNY Fredonia where he graduated with an associated in applied sciences and a license as a physical therapist assistant.
Coach Swartz helped coach at Dunkirk High School as an intern in 2016 for the indoor and outdoor track teams and he currently works as a physical therapist assistant at Elite Therapy in Horseheads, NY.

SUNY CCC's Director of Athletics had this to say about the hiring of Coach Swartz for the men's and women's cross-country programs:

"We are certainly very excited by the addition of Casey to our Red Barons team. He has plenty of experience as a former High School and Collegiate student-athlete. We are eager to get him started and off the ground running as he looks to put his mark on the team for the 2023 cross-country season. "
