COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER: ELMIRA GRAD WISE AN ALL-LEAGUE SELECTION FOR EC AS SOARING EAGLES GET FOUR ON ALL CONFERENCE (2022-11-09)

Southern Tier Sports Report
The Empire 8 Athletic Conference announced its 2022 Men's Soccer All-Conference selections on Tuesday morning, with Kerfalla Toure '26 headlining the Elmira College selections with a First Team nod. In addition to Toure, Lutho Mlunguza '23, Elmira graduate Gavin Wise '22, and freshman offensive standout Martin Harguindey '26 earned Third Team honors. Henry Wylie '23 served as Elmira's representative for Empire 8 Sportsman of the Year.

Wise earned his second Empire 8 All-Conference selection (2021, Third Team) by earning Third Team honors once again. Wise was able to establish himself in his fifth season as the designated penalty shot taker down the stretch. The Soaring Eagles, who finished the season 9-of-9 in penalty shots as a team, received a 5-for-5 effort from Wise. In addition to his success in PKs, Wise was 5th in the conference in goals (8), and tied for 1st in the conference in game-winning goals (4) with Harguindey.

Toure, a freshman from Montreal, Quebec, earned First Team recognition after a successful campaign on the defensive side. In 1428 minutes played (team lead for an Elmira field player), Toure was able to help anchor a Soaring Eagle defense which allowed 1.33 goals per contest. For the Purple & Gold, it marked the teams' latest First Team selection since Adam Nichols '20 did so in 2019.

Mlunguza earned Third Team honors for the Soaring Eagles after posting a seven goal, two assist effort during the season. In the games which Mlunguza scored, the Purple & Gold were able to post a 4-0-2 record which included a 1-0 win over the visiting Lakers from SUNY Oswego on September 18. For the senior, it was his third E8 All-Conference selection after earning Honorable Mention (2019) and Second Team (2021).

Harguindey earned postseason accolades in his first season after seven goal, three assist effort. With Wise, his four game-winning goals were tied for 1st in the Empire 8 and his seven goals were T-8th in the conference with Mlunguza. Arguably Harguindey's biggest goal of the season came in Elmira's 2-1 victory over Empire 8 Champion Medaille University which handed the Mavericks its only loss of the season heading into the NCAA Tournament.
