STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: ELMIRA'S MORDVINOVA AND CORNING'S MCLAREN (2022-09-25)

There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the athlete of the week honors. In the end, it was Elmira’s Ana (Vicky) Mordvinova who are the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

Athletes of the Week are only eligible to be chosen once per sports season in the regular season, they are then eligible again in the postseason.


ANA (VICKY) MORDVINOVA, ELMIRA, GIRLS’, XC
The Elmira senior had a huge day at the Owego Invite.

Mordvinova won the large-school race by nearly a minute, but she was also more than 30 seconds faster than any other runner overall between the two varsity %K races. There were a total of 132 runners between the two races.

Mordvinova finished in 18:23.80. No one else in either race was faster than 18:58.70.


TEVIN MCLAREN, CORNING, BOYS’ XC
Led the corning Hawks in a talented field at the Bowdoin Park Invitational.

Running against teams from throughout the Northeast, including many of the strongest teams in the state of New Jersey and Connecticut, among other schools, the Hawks had a fourth-place finish and McLaren was the top finisher for the Hawks.

McLaren finished 14th overall in a field of 443 runners.
