By Brian Fees Southern Tier Sports Report ELMIRA HEIGHTS — As the Edison volleyball team prepares for the season, they are coming off a 14-6 campaign, but will have a new look this year with a new coaching staff.
With Alyssa Covas taking over for Paul Richmond as head coach, and Jordan McCooey starting her coaching career as an assistant, the Spartans are ready to continue last year’s success.
“So much fun,” McCooey said of preparing for the season. This is actually my first season coaching, so already having so much fun with the girls, learning to know them and everything like that.”
The team has big numbers this year.
“I think we had upward of 40 on the tryout list,” McCooey said.
There is some adjustments this year with a new coaching staff in place.
“It’s definitely different,’ McCooey said. “But, I think the dynamic Alyssa and I have, we are going to have a really good season.”
And, the team has a good group of returning athletes ready to help the younger players.
“Having that experience helps the new girls because they can teach them things they learned from the previous years,” McCooey said.
Right now, the Spartans are ready to get the season going.
