JOHNSON CITY — The Southern Tier dropped its first two games of the 10th Annual BCANY Summer Hoops Festival here Friday.

The Tier rallied late in the first game, but faded down the stretch in a 73-66 setback against Hudson Valley.

Playing back-to-back games, the team had to change locations for its nightcap, a 71-61 loss to Buffalo.

HUDSON VALLEY 73, SOUTHERN TIER 66
With Southern Tier trailing, 53-43, Horseheads’ Jeremy Truax drained two consecutive 3-pointers with about 6 ½ minutes to go.

Older brother Amauri hit a pair of foul shots to close the gap to 57-56 while Vestal’s Jalan Johnson made five of six free throws to help ST close the gap to 62-61 in the final minutes.

Jeremy Truax grabbed a rebound and took it the distance shortly after, but was called for a charge, then Hudson Valley went on a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.

Southern Tier scored five of the game’s final six points.

Johnson finished with a team-high 20 points and Union-Endicott’s Mekai Lindsey scored 11.

Jeremy Truax added nine points and Amauri Truax tacked on six more. U-E’s Larry Morse had eight, Seton Catholic’s Drew Erickson put up 11 and Owego’s John Bangel chipped in with five.

Hudson Valley’s Dylan Colon led all scorers with 21 points an Elijah Morris had 17, including seven straight free throws down the stretch.

BUFFALO 71, SOUTHERN TIER 61
Buffalo rode eight 3-pointers to a 37-32 halftime advantage.

They tacked on five more treys in the second half and went 8-for-10 at the charity stripe to secure the victory.

Erickson and Jeremy Truax paced Southern Tier with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Johnson and Ithaca’s Sincere Clemons had nine points apiece. Morse scored four, Lindsey and Marathon’s Conor Holland pitched in with three each. Owego’s Joe Bangel, Chenango Valley’s Jeter King and Maine-Endwell’s Aidan Fenkl added two apiece, and John Bangel had one.

A trio of Buffalo players put up double digits. Lucas Brown scored a game-high 22 on the strength of a half-dozen threes. Nick Moore scored 12 and Channing Francis added 10.

Southern Tier plays its third game in less than 16 hours with an 11 a.m. contest against Nassau. ST closes out pool play against Capital at 2 p.m.
