LOCAL SWIMMERS FIND SUCCESS AT FUTURE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2022-08-03)

GENEVA, OHIO — Three local athletes found success for the CPP River Hawks at the 2022 Future Championships at the Spire Institute.

The meet was held July 27-30 and Cullin Cole and Shoonfon Li of Horseheads and Corning Painted-Post graduate Cal Bartone all competed in the meet representing the River Hawks.

All times were long course meters times and Cole had a 17th place finish in the 50 free with a time of 23.90. Cole hit a winter Junior Nationals qualifying time in the prelims with a 24.26 and he had a summer junior nationals qualifying time with the 23.90 in the final.

Cole was 37th in the 100 free in 53.75 and he was 66th in the 200 free in 2:01.88.

Li was 48th in the 400 IM in 4:50.64 and he was 66th in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.26, while finishing 53rd in the 200 IM in 2:16.59.

Bartone was 27th in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.41 and he swam the 50 free in 24.18 and 54th in the 100 free in 54.39.

There are five future championship meets in the country. Swimmers age 14-23 competed in Geneva. Swimmers from Division I teams such as Ohio State, Pittsburg, Yale, Villanova, Old Dominion and Akron competed in the meet while Division III powerhouse Dennison University also had swimmers competing in the meet.
