TRAVEL SOFTBALL: KORATSIS CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY WITH THREE HOMER DAY FOR CONKLIN RAIDERS 18U GOLD; POLZELLA, PLACE ALSO HAVE BIG DAYS (2022-07-02)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Horseheads’ Eva Koratsis celebrated her 18th birthday in a big way for the Conklin Raiders 18u Gold team.

Koratsis had three home runs on the day in Colorado (two against an incoming Cal recruit and one against an incoming Mississippi State recruit). The Fordham commit had a double and three home runs, along with six RBI. For the tournament, so far, she is batting .588 with 10 hits and nine RBI.

Other locals playing for the Raiders include Corning’s Sophia Polzella (2024 uncommitted) who is batting .471. She also had hits against the Cal and Mississippi State commits for the tournament and defensively she had three line drive double plays at third base back to Koratsis at first base. She has also shared catching duties with Elmira’s Kaitlin Place when not playing third.

Place (Monmouth commit) has a .389 on base percentage for the tournament so far and three stolen bases.

The Raiders have faced some of the top teams in the country with wins against the Colorado Syxx, Batbusters Comes and Oklahoma Athletics and have tight losses to the Firecrackers, Prolific and Iowa Premier Gold.

After losing in the second round of bracket play the Raiders begin at 2 p.m. (Mountain time) today in the consolation bracket against the winner of a game between the Firecrackers team, coached by TJ Houshmandzadeh and the Arizona Stomr. The Raiders need three wins Saturday to get to Championship Sunday in Colorado.
