TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING'S CORNFIELD EARNS ALL-AMERICA HONORS IN THE STEEPLECHASE (2022-06-19)
Southern Tier Sports ReportPHILADELPHIA — Corning’s Gabe Cornfield earned All-American honors in the 2000 meter steeplechase on Saturday, finishing fifth at New Balance Nationals.
Cornfield ran a 5:57.25 to bring home the fifth place finish. He was just a second out of fourth place and just nine seconds behind the winner, Devan Kipyego of the Saints TC out of Rhode Island.
Cornfield started strong, sitting in fifth place after 400 meters in 1:11.33. At the 800 meter mark, at 2:21.62, he was sitting in sixth place.
Cornfield fell back to seventh place in 3:35.06 after 1200 meters, but moved up two spots to fifth in 4:46.78 after 1600, before finishing in that same fifth place.
