SOUTHERN TIER SPORTS REPORT: CORNING'S CHEN NAMED GIRLS' GOLF ALL-STSR PLAYER OF THE YEAR; HORSEHEADS GETS FOUR OF SUPER 7 (2022-06-13)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Lucia Chen had a top 20 finish in the state this year, while the Horseheads girls golf team went unbeaten in the regular season and won the Section 4 title.

Now, it’s time to honor the area’s best for girls’ golf with the All-STSR Super Seven girls’ golf team.

Chen leads the way as the Player of the Year, while the Horseheads girls are well represented with four players on the team.

Chen shot a three-under par 68 at the sectional tournament to win sectionals. She posted two straight under-par rounds prior to sectionals as well.

Then, the Hawks senior went to states and finished 20th in the state.

After helping the Horseheads Blue Raiders go unbeaten in the regular season and win sectionals Horseheads coach Ed Browning is the coach of the year.

Evelyn Wheeler was just a seventh grader playing on the boys’ varsity team at Notre Dame, but she made an impact all season, and was among the team’s top five golfers at the IAC Championships and she is the newcomer of the year.

Area golfers took the top three spots at Sectionals with Chen winning and Horseheads’ Brooklyn Moffe and Corning’s Hannah Masaki tying for second place.

All three golfers are among the Super Seven golfers of the year, along with Horseheads golfers Ava Fairbrother, Olivia Hatch and Delaney Cook and Corning’s Molly Creath.
