COLLEGE MEN'S LACROSSE: CORNING GRAD GROTTENTHALER A TWO-TIME NATIONAL CHAMP, SCORES AS RIT WINS 2ND STRAIGHT D3 NATIONAL TITLE (2022-05-30)

Southern Tier Sports Report
Corning graduate Seth Grottenthaler is now a two-time National Champion as the RIT men’s lacrosse team beat Union 12-10 to capture the NCAA Division III National Championship for the second straight year.

RIT became the sixth team in Division III history to win back-to-back National Championships and the first since Salisbury in 2016-2017.

Union led the game 7-2 at one point in the second quarter, before RIT came back for the win.

Grottenthaler scored a goal for RIT in the victory. The goal for Grottenthaler was the final goal of the game for RIT and it was the 11th of the season for the Corning graduate.

Grottenthaler played in 14 games off the bench this year, finishing with 11 goals and six assists on the season for the National Champions.

RIT finishes the year with a 22-1 record. The only loss was in early April to nationally ranked Rensselaer, 13-12.

This was only the second time this year RIT trailed at the half, the other was in the loss to RPI this year.

Sunday’s win was the Tigers’ fourth national title game appearance, finishing as runner-up in 2013 and 2017.
