COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CCC SOFTBALL WINS REGIONAL TITLE TO ADVANCE TO NATIONAL TOURNEY

CORNING — In a must win game, the Corning Community College softball team did what it does best, winning for the 35th time in past 36 games as the Red Barons won the NJCAA Division III Regional title on Friday.
The Corning Community College softball team advanced to the national tournament for the second straight year as they beat Niagara County Community College 11-2 on Friday.
After Niagara County Community College won the first game of the best of three the Red Barons won the past two in order to advance.
CCC scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then after Niagara County Community College scored in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-1, the Red Barons answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
Grace Vondracek and Grace Talbut each hit home runs in the game for CCC. Vondracek had a grand slam, a double, four RBI and three runs scored and Talbut had a home run, a double, three RBI and two runs scored.
Edison grad Jodie Burdick was 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored and Elmira grad Lexi Wood had two hits, with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
Horseheads graduate Lexi Wahl-Knowlden had a hit and scored a run and Horseheads graduate Emma Loomis scored two runs in the game.
Bella Benjamin had an RBI and scored a run in the game.
Emily McCreery and Jayden Hill combined on a five-hitter for CCC. McCreery struck out five and allowed two hits and one run in five innings and Hill struck out one and allowed three hits and one run in two innings.
CCC heads to the eight-team NJCAA Division III World Series at Carrier Park Field of Dreams in DeWitt from May 25-28.
Corning is ranked second in the nation behind Rock Valley, who beat the Red Barons last year 13-2. Rock Valley is the top ranked team in the country heading into the World Series.
