COLLEGE SOFTBALL: CCC WINS GAME TWO TO FORCE DECIDING GAME IN NJCAA REGION III FINALS (24 PHOTOS) (2022-05-20)

CORNING — With their season on the line the Corning Community College softball team scored 11 straight runs on Thursday afternoon to keep alive their hopes in the NJCAA Region III finals.

Corning split a pair of games with Niagara County Community College on Thursday, setting up a decisive third game at noon today. The winner of today’s game moves onto the NJCAA National Championship Tournament May 25-28 in Syracuse.

After Niagara County Community College took the first game on Thursday 13-4 in five innings, the Red Baron found themselves down 2-0 after one inning in game two.

That’s when CCC came back with five runs in the second and six in the third to lead 11-2. Niagara CCC scored two in the bottom of the third and six in the fourth to get within 11-10, but CCC scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to keep their season alive.

Grace Talbut and Edison grade Jodie Burdick had home runs in the second game on Thursday.

Elmira grad Lexi Wood had two hits, with a double, three RBI and two runs scored ad Horseheads grad Emma Loomis had two hits, with a double, and two runs scored.

Grace Vondracek had two hits, with a double, an rBI and two runs scored and Talbut drove in two runs and scored a run.

Elmira grad Kiarah Grover and Bella Benjamin each scored runs for CCC.

Gabby Coletta had two hits, with a double, an RBI and three runs scored and Burdick had a 4-for-5 day with four RBI and two runs scored.

Horseheads grad Lexi Wahl-Knowlden had a double and scored a run.

Jayden Hill struck out three on the mound for CCC.

In the opening game Benjamin hit a home run for CCC.

Loomis, Burdick and Wahl-Knowlden each had two hits for CCC in the game. Burdick and Wahl-Knowlden each scored a run and Loomis had two RBI.

Wood had a hit and an RBI, Talbut had a hit and scored a run and Grover had a hit.

Emily McCreery struck out six on the mound for CCC.
