IAC TRACK AND FIELD: NOTRE DAME GIRLS CLAIM TITLE AS CRUSADERS HAVE STRONG SHOWING; EDISON FINISHES STRONG (11 PHOTOS) (2022-05-20)

Southern Tier Sports Report
TRUMANSBURG —The Notre Dame girls track and field team finished Thursday right where we left off on Wednesday at the IAC Track and Field Championships as they beat Waverly by two points for the team title.

Out of the 16 girls who ran for Notre Dame, 12 of them scored points. The younger athletes really stepped up and helped push us up over the top to beat Waverly, which was the favorite to win the team title. The Crusaders veterans; Makenna Keough, Amanda Simpson, Rachael Simpson, and Piper Young; all are multiple IAC event champions.

Younger runners Caroline Horton, Isabella Mashewske, and Claire Develin also chipped in with an event championship.

Keough was named the meet MVP for field events and Amanda was named the running MVP. On the boys side Tyler Simpson ran to an IAC event championship, helping lead the three boys to a 6th place finish.

“We knew we were in the ball game for second place going into the meet Wednesday but after an exceptional first night, we made it a point to defend our point lead,” Notre Dame coach Chris Wise said. “Waverly and us went back and forth all night long and really pushed our girls right down to the last event, the 4x400 relay. We knew we had to win it to win the meet and Piper, Rachael, Claire, and Amanda responded by not only beating top seed Waverly but setting the fastest time in the section. It was a great way to clinch it. I am so proud of how our veterans led the way and also brought along our other younger athletes. They earned our first league title in 6 years the hard way and didn't give up at any point.”
