STAC TRACK AND FIELD: CORNING BOYS AND GIRLS BRING HOME STAC TOURNEY TITLES AS LOCALS HAVE BIG DAY (24 PHOTOS) (2022-05-19)

JOHNSON CITY — The Corning boys and girls each turned in dominant efforts to bring home STAC Championships in track and field on Wednesday.

The girls won with 110.33 points, more than double that of runner-up Chenango Forks (50). Ithaca had 47.33, Oneonta had 45 and Johnson City had 42.33 points.

Horseheads finished with 38 points in seventh place and Elmira was 10th with 30 points.

For the boys Corning scored 148 points, nearly double that of runner-up Ithaca (75). Oneonta took third (60), followed by Chenango Valley (57) and Johnson City (45).

Horseheads took ninth at 24 points followed by Elmira with 17.

Corning’s Sophia ReSue was third in the 400 in 1:02.38 followed by teammate Megan Kirk (1:03.4) with Isabella Cipolla of Horseheads sixth in 1:03.63.

Elmira’s Ana (Vicky) Mordvinova won the 800 in 2:18.31 with Corning’s Faithe Ketchum third in 2:26.28 and teammate Sarah Lawson was fifth in 2:31.17. Samantha Oakes of Horseheads took 10th in 2:39.04.

Lawson won the 1500 in 4:42.88 followed by Ketchum (4:43.29). Horseheads’ CeCe Cowen took sixth in 5:20.07 with Oakes 10th in 5:33.27.

Corning’s Cristina Gaskievicz won the 3000 in 10:48.35 with teammate Bri Urban fourth in 11:43.21 and Ayla Kerwan of Horseheads was eighth in 12:20.50.

Horseheads’ Brenna O’Brien was second in the 100 hurdles in 16.86 followed by Elmira’s Zalayna Brown (17.51) and MayAnna Sindlinger of Horseheads (17.57).

Corning’s Lauren Gerow won the 400 hurdles in 1:07.82 and Alexus Borek of Horseheads took third in 1:11.29 followed by Sindlinger (1:12.02). Corning’s Abby Reppert was seventh in 1:17.07.

In the 200 meter steeplechase Olivia Grinnell won in 7:52.24 followed by teammate Meghan McLaughlin (8:04.34). Horseheads’ Corinne DeFilippo took fifth in 8:57.74.

In the 1600 relay Corning’s Cassandra Howard, Faith Tubbs, Gerow and Kirk won in 4:15.65 and in the 3200 relay Cassandra Collins, Lauren Roche, Taylor Farrell and Elianna Schneider took third in 10:53.89.

ReSue won the high jump at 5-feet and Borek was fifth at 4-feet, 8-inches, while Gwen Zimmerman of Corning took eighth at 4-feet, 6-inches.

Reppert was third in the pole vault at 7-feet, 6-inches while Gillian Dykes of Elmira took fifth at 7-feet and Lillian Farrand of Corning tied for sixth at 6-feet, 6-inches.

Cipolla took second in the long jump at 16-feet, 1 3/4-inches and Elmira’s Annah Stearns was fifth at 14-feet, 11 1/2-inhcheswhile Reppert took 10th at 14-feet, 2 1/4-inches.

Elmira’s Piper Hooey was third in the triple jump at 33-feet, 2 1/4-inches and Stearns was seventh at 30-feet, 11 1/4-inches.

Elmira’s Natasia Reynolds finished sixth in the shot at 28-feet, 6 1/2-inches. Reynolds was sixth in the discus at 85-feet, 11-inches followed by Horseheads’ Gracie Ringer (80-feet, 1-inch) and Ashley Tubbs of Corning was ninth at 68-feet, 11-inches followed by Horseheads’ Madilyn Jerzak (67-feet, 11-inches).

For the boys in the 200 Gyasi Ruffin of Corning took third in 23.49 and teammate Zuri Ruffin was seventh in 24.47.

Gyasi Ruffin was second in the 400 in 49.86 followed by teammate Lennart Jensen (51.45). Horseheads’ Bradock Salisbury was sixth in 52.79 followed by teammate Seth Wilsoncroft (53.30).

Horseheads’ Axl Andrus had a huge season best in the 800 to win in 1:56.66 followed by Corning’s Jack Gregorski in 1:58.59. Corning’s Ashton Bange finished fifth in 2:03.23 followed by Elmira’s Isaac May in 2:07.47.

Gabe Cornfield of Corning won the 1600 in 4:26.12 with teammate Matt Gensel third in 4:29.85 followed by Horseheads’ Ace Andrus (4:32.68). Horseheads’ Ben Long was sixth (4:39.69) followed by Elmira’s Nasir King (4:43.61) and Elmira’s Caleb Belanger was 10th in 4:48.23.

Corning’s Tevin McLaren was third in the 3200 in 9:53.09 followed by teammate Nathan Webb (9:53.97) and Elmira’s Ben Allen (9:56.10).

Corning’s Brady Hughes was third in the 110 hurdles in 17.18 and Noah Ruffer was fifth in 17.56.

Hugo Mazzali of Corning was third in the 400 hurdles in 1:01.93 and teammate Hector Mayolet was ninth in 1:04.56.

Corning’s DJ Cornfield won the 3000 steeplechase in 9:58.44 while Horseheads Sean White was fifth in 11:20.14.

In the 1600 relay Gabe Cornfield, Mayolet, Jensen and Joe Caruso won the 1600 relay in 3:32.69 and in the 3200 relay Bange, Gabe Cornfield, Gregorski and McLaren won in 8:01.77.

Horseheads’ Noah Puffer was seventh in the high jump at 5-feet, 8-inches and Hughes tied for ninth at 5-feet, 6-inches.

Hughes was third in the pole vault at 10-feet, 6-inches and Nathanial Jennings took seventh in the pole vault at 9-feet, 6-inches.

Zuri Ruffin was second for Corning in the long jump at 19-feet, 10 3/4-inches and Noah Ruffer took eighth at 18-feet, 6-inches.

Mazzali was third in the triple jump at 40-feet, 8 1/2-inches and in the shot John Hursh took second at 43-feet, 5 1/2-inches with teammate Michael Millow fourth at 41-feet, 9 1/2-inches. Elmira’s Cal Marks was fifth at 40-feet, 8-inches followed by teammate Alex McKerrow (40-feet, 6 1/4-inches).

In the discus Hursh won at 139-feet, followed by teammate Chris Mechalke (126-feet, 8-inches) and Elmira’s Marks (123-feet, 4-inches) and McKerrow (113-feet, 9-inches).
