IAC TRACK AND FIELD: STRONG FIRST DAY FOR ND, EDISON AT IAC CHAMPIONSHIPS (21 PHOTOS) (2022-05-19)

TRUMANSBURG — It was a strong first day for Notre Dame and Edison athletes at the IAC Championships on Wednesday.

The Notre Dame girls had four wins, and a runner-up finish on the day and they lead the team standings after day one.

Makenna Keough won the 100 hurdles for Notre Dame in 16.59, more than a half second faster than anyone else in the race. Keough also won the long jump at 16-feet, 4-inches. Teammate Claire Devlin finished fifth in the long jump at 14-feet, 10 1/2-inches.

Piper Young won the 1500 in 5:17.53, more than nine seconds faster than the runner-up.

In the 100 meters Notre Dame’s Amanda Simpson won the race in 12.98 and teammate Eleanor Green was third in 13.42.

In the boys’ 100 Cody Lucero of Edison took fourth in 11.72.

Notre Dame’s Rachael Simpson took second in the 400 in 1:01.11.

For the Notre Dame boys’ Tyler Simpson was second in the 400 in 52.92. Wyatte Taylor of Edison took 10th in 55.60.

Derek Simpson took second for Notre Dame in the 1600 in 4:41.90.

Notre Dame took third in the girls’ 3200 relay in 11:38.69 with Edison fourth in 11:55.84.

For the boys the Spartans took sixth in the 3200 relay in 9:28.78.

Maura Heraghty took third in the 2000 steeplechase for Edison in 8:36.68.

Edison’s Emily Evans finished seventh in the discus at 77-feet, 3-inches.
