STAC SOFTBALL: RIJO HAS FOUR HITS AS CORNING TOPS ELMIRA (2022-05-09)

ELMIRA — The Corning Hawks, the No. 3 ranked AA team in the state, moved to 14-1 on the year with a 9-4 win over Elmira.

Corning scored five first-inning runs and seven runs in the first two innings to lead 7-1 early.

Elmira scored a run in the third and two in the fourth to get within 7-4, but Corning added runs in the sixth and seventh to seal the win.

Corning had 12 hits in the win with Atalyia Rijo getting four hits, with a triple, and three runs scored.

Kellie Zoerb had three hits in the game, and scored two runs.

Olivia Keegan had two hits, with a triple, and an RBI. Kendall Curreri had a double, three RBI and a run scored.

Ellie DeRosa had a hit, two RBI and a run scored in the game and Jillian Austin had a hit and an RBI.

Kelsey Booker and Sophia Polzella each scored runs for Corning.

Peyton Sullivan went three innings, striking out three and allowing three hits.

Austin struck out five in three innings of one-hit, shutout ball and Anya Beres went one inning, allowing one hit and no runs.

Addison Chorney had two hits and scored a run in the game and Allie Howe had a double and an RBI.

Payton Ross and MacKenzie Fusare each had hits for Elmira, with Fusare scoring a run.

Kaitlynn Place had an RBI and a run scored and Ava Sherman scored a run for Elmira.

Paityn Chorney struck out four in the complete game for Elmira.
