H.S. SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS DROPS OFFENSIVE BATTLE IN OPENER AT MYRTLE BEACH (2022-04-11)

MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- Horseheads had taken the lead with a big fifth inning, but South Range answered in the bottom half of the fifth and that was the difference as the Blue Raiders fell 10-8 in their first game in Myrtle Beach.

Facing a team out of Canfield, Ohio, the Blue Raiders found themselves down 1-0 after the first inning.

However, Horseheads scored two in the third to take a 2-1 lead, before South Range answered with two in the fourth to go back up 3-2.

Horseheads scored fit in the fifth to take a 7-3 lead, before South Range answered with six runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to go up 9-7.

Horseheads got a run back in the sixth to get back within one, but South Range scored in the bottom half of the sixth to seal the win.

Maddie Matkosky, Olivia Packard and Belle Giammichele all had two hits for Horseheads in the game.

Packard had a double and two RBI and Matkosky scored two runs, while Giammichele had two RBI and scored a run.

Rachel Lunger had a double and an RBI for Horseheads and Carly Scott had a hit in the game for the Blue Raiders.

Molly Wolf, Gabby Beschwer, Megan Wolf and Katie Morse all scored runs for Horseheads in the game.

The Blue Raiders drew five walks in the game, two of them by Eva Koratsis, who had an RBI and a run scored for the Blue Raiders.

Every starter in the Horseheads lineup had a hit, or scored a run, in the game.

In the iff-run fifth inning the Blue Raiders got the first run on an error off the bat of Molly Wolf and then Giammichele drove in two runs with a single, before a run by Katie Morse scored on a wild pitch. An RBI double by Lunger capped the scoring in the inning.

Matkosky struck out four on the mound for Horseheads in 4 1/3 innings and Megan Wolf struck out one in 1 2/3 innings.
