H.S. SOFTBALL: RIJO HITS TWO HOME RUNS TO LEAD CORNING TO WIN AT JC (2022-04-06)

JOHNSON CITY — Atalyia Rijo hit a pair of home runs as the Corning softball team moved to 2-0 on the year with an 11-4 win over Johnson City.

Rijo homered in both the first and second innings of the victory.

Rijo finished the game with two hits, two RBI and three runs scored and Ellie DeRosa was 4-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

Kellie Zoerb had three hits with three runs scored and Kelsey Booker and Olivia Keegan each had doubles.

Kendall Curreri had a hit and two RBI with a run scored and Maddie Dibble had a hit in the game.

Sophia Polzella and Molly Moylan each scored runs in the game.

Peyton Sullivan started and pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing just one hit with one strikeout. Jillian Austin threw 1 1/3 innings, allowing two hits, with one strikeout and Daphne Sherman threw one perfect inning with a strikeout.

Anya Beres threw one inning, allowing one hit.

Corning returns to action in a battle of state powerhouses at Maine-Endwell on Friday before traveling South to compete in the Grand Strand Softball Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina during Spring Break.
