HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS EDGED BY VESTAL ON WALK-OFF HR (2022-04-04)

VESTAL — After Horseheads tied the game in the top of the seventh, Vestal got a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh as they beat the Blue Raiders 3-2 on Monday night.

Cat Petteys hit a walk-off home run for Vestal with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Golden Bears to the victory.

Vestal had scored two runs in the first inning and they kept that lead into the fifth inning.

In the fifth inning Carly Scott singles and after advancing on a groundout Scott scored on a double by Rachel Lunger to make it 2-1.

Horseheads tied the game in the top of the seventh as Bella Giammichele had a one-out double and Scott singled her home to tie the game. Scott would eventually reach third base, but was left stranded to end the inning.

Scott and Giammichele each had two hits for Horseheads.

Lunger, Olivia Packard and Giammichele had doubles in the game.

Maddie Matkosky struck out 12 on the mound for the Blue Raiders in the loss.

Mallory Duff threw a six-hitter, striking out 13 for Vestal.
