HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: EDISON EARNS SPLIT, TOPPING GREENE, FALLING TO LANSING TO OPEN SEASON (24 PHOTOS) (April 2, 2022)

ELMIRA HEIGHTS -- The Edison baseball team split a pair of games to open the season, beating Greene 4-3 and falling to Lansing 10-0.

GAME 1
Edison 4, Greene 3

In the opener the Spartans scored two runs in the sixth to win the game.

After Greene took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth the Spartans answered in the bottom half of the inning to win it.

Max Goodman, DeShon Cook and Kyler Ripley all had hits to lead off the inning with Cook hitting a double. Cook doubled home Goodman to tie it and Ripley singled home Cook to win it.

Greene had led 1-0 after two when Edison scored two in the third to take the lead. Riley Cobb and Michael Brown each walked and scored in the inning.

Cook had two hits, an RBI and a run scored and Goodman, Ripley and Dylan Swartwood had hits in the win.

Swartwood went four innings on the mound, striking out six and Brown went two innings to get the win, striking out one. Jabreydon White pitched one inning of one-hit, two strikeout relief to get the save.

GAME 2
Lansing 10, Edison 0

A close game all afternoon, Lansing broke things open with an eight run sixth inning to pull away in what was a 2-0 game.

Lansing pitcher Zack Sperger was dominant, throwing a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts. Sperger is a Division I commit, who will play in college at UMass Lowell.

Goodman went three innings for Edison, striking out two and Ripley threw two innings of perfect relief, striking out one.

White and Blake Cobb finished out the game on the mound, striking out one between them.
