SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: ELMIRA OPENS SEASON WITH HOME GAME AGAINST BINGHAMTON (2021-09-11)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA — The Express kick off their season this afternoon as they play host to Binghamton.

Last year there was football, but it was a lot different with a shortened season in the Spring. This year, the kids are back, ready for a fall season.

“The kids are eager to play football,” Elmira coach James McCauley said. “Kids are really excited to have football back in the fall. It was great to have football last year, but it has a different feeling now that it’s back in the fall.”

Having a home game to open the season just makes things even more exciting for the Elmira players.

“We love playing at home,” McCauley said. “Our fans are very supportive as we feel them at our games.”

The Express know they face a test against Binghamton.

“Binghamton is always athletic and big,” McCauley said. “Nothing has changed. They have some big guys up front and some skill guys with size. We will have to be at our best.”

WHEN ELMIRA HAS THE BALL
The key to the game offensively for the Express is to avoid mistakes and keep control of the ball.

“We need to take care of the ball,” McCauley said. “Be in great shape.”

WHEN BINGHAMTON HAS THE BALL
The Express know that Binghamton hast athletes, and they will have to work well together defensively.

“We need to execute our game plan,” McCauley said. “Pursuit to the ball and tackle with 11 guys.”
