ON TAP TODAY: ELMIRA SCHOOLS KICK OFF FOOTBALL SEASON (2021-09-11)

Southern Tier Sports Report
It’s another busy day of football for area teams as both Elmira teams have Saturday kickoffs to begin the season.

The Elmira Express host Binghamton, while Notre Dame hosts Trumansburg to begin the season.

The Notre Dame cross country team holds an Invite which also includes Edison, while the Horseheads boys’ soccer team gets there first chance to play at the new stadium when they host Athens.

A look at the day’s events.

FOOTBALL
BINGHAMTON AT ELMIRA, 1:30 P.M.: The Express kick off their season with a home matchup against Binghamton.

TRUMANSBURG AT NOTRE DAME, 7 P.M.: Mike Johnston Sr., who coached the team from 1971-81, is back at the helm as the Crusaders open the season

BOYS’ SOCCER
ATHENS AT HORSEHEADS, 7:30 P.M.: The Blue Raiders get their first chance to play in the new stadium as they host a team from across the state border.

CROSS COUNTRY:
EDISON, NOTRE DAME AT NOTRE DAME INVITE (10:30 A.M. VARSITY START): The two local schools join six others for a meet at the Domes.

CORNING AT RED JACKET INVITE: The Hawks hit the road for their first 5K meet of the season.

GROTON, ONEONTA AT ELMIRA, 8:30 A.M.: The Express cross country teams open up the season at home.

VOLLEYBALL
ELMIRA AND HORSEHEADS AT UNION-ENDICOTT: The Blue Raiders and Express both hit the road for a tournament.
