IAC GIRLS' BASKETBALL: EDISON GIRLS OVERCOME 28 POINTS FROM MALONEY TO TOP ND FOR 8TH STRAIGHT VICTORY (2022-01-19)

ELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison girls’ basketball team got off to a fast start and held on to beat Notre Dame 51-46 for their eighth straight victory.

Notre Dame got a huge game from Shannon Maloney, with 28 points, in the loss.

Edison led 15-6 after one quarter, but the Crusaders came back in the second half to get the deficit down to 22-19 at the half.

Both teams scored 15 third-quarter points as the Spartans held on for the victory.

Payton LIttlefield had 19 points for Edison, scoring seven in the fourth quarter. She had four threes in the game, two in the final quarter.

Gianna McGee had 15 points, six rebounds and three steals, hitting two threes.

Lexi Moore had seven points for Edison and Gabby Milazzo hit two threes on her way to six points.

Maren Lutz and Harper Hoffman each had two points for the Spartans.

Maloney had 28 to lead the Crusaders. She scored nine points in the second quarter as the Crusaders cut into the early deficit and she had nine points in the fourth quarter, hitting 5-of-6 free throws in the quarter and 7-of-8 from the line in the game.

Maddy Sheehan had seven points for the Crusaders and Lawson Bigelow had six points, while Kara Welliver finished with three points.
