COLLEGE MEN'S BASKETBALL: CORNING GRAD HAGGARD MAKES HOMECOMING AS NAZARETH MEN TOP ELMIRA (24 PHOTOS) (2022-01-15)

ELMIRA – Corning graduate Jordan Haggard made a bit of a homecoming as he helped Nazareth top Elmira College 70-60 in men’s basketball action on Friday night.

After carrying a six-point lead into the break, the Soaring Eagles surrendered a 10-0 run to begin the half, as Nazareth never trailed following the 18:00 mark in the second half.

Haggard played eight minutes in the game, taking a pair of shots for Nazareth in the game. The junior is averaging 4.2 points a game this year, including a 13-point effort against Buffalo State to start the year.
 
Bryan Adams '25 paced the Soaring Eagles on the offensive end, finishing the game with 18 points while collecting a pair of rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles and Golden Flyers battled through the first half, each converting 12 buckets. In the half, the Purple & Gold led by as many as 12 points, using a 21-8 run over an eight-minute span as they held a 35-23 lead with just 1:23 remaining in the half. Over the final 90 seconds, Nazareth closed the period on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to just six headed into the break.
 
In the first half, Marc Anthony Artuz '24 led all scorers with 10 points, while Raashad Nurse '22 (9 points) and Harry Ravitz '23 (6 rebounds) assisted in the first half success.
 
With nine lead changes and five ties in the first half, the Soaring Eagle bench was able to narrowly edge Nazareth 17-14.
 
To begin the second half, Nazareth used a 10-0 run to regain the lead in the first two minutes of play, one they would hold onto for the remainder of the contest. Increasing its shooting percentage by nearly 10% from the floor, Nazareth would convert on 14 shots (four from beyond the arc after starting the game 0-for-8), compared to a 0-for-5 effort for Elmira from three-point territory.
 
For the game, the Soaring Eagles won the battle in points off turnovers (12-8) as well as bench scoring (32-21). The Golden Flyers were able to find its success on the inside, outscoring Elmira 42-28.
