ELMIRA SWIMMING & DIVING INVITATIONAL: SEEDS RELEASED, LOCAL TEAMS TAKE MANY TOP SEEDS (2022-01-14)

The Elmira swimming and diving invitational kicks off today with the diving, and then tomorrow the swimmers hit the pool.

Elmira, Horseheads and Corning all are competing in the meet and the locals are among the top seeds in most of the events.

Everything kicks off at 5 p.m. today with the diving.

Elmira’s Creed Hackett is the top seed in his home pool at 273.55 while the Horseheads pair of Aaron Verkleeren (271.65) and Joshua Scibek (264.60) are the net two seeds. Verkleeren has already qualified for states with an 11-dive score at Watkins Glen last week.

Corning’s Taigan McCarey (230.95) is the fifth seed, followed by teammate Brenden Jardin-Reed (210.80), Horseheads’ Miles Twomey (206.55) and Elmira’s Cooper Taft (185.45).

In the 200 medley relay Horseheads is the second seed at 1:41.25, behind Ithaca at 1:39.15. Elmira is the fifth seed and Corning is the seventh seed. Ithaca has hit the state standard with their seed time.

In the 200 IM Corning’s Ryan Kang is the fifth seed at 2:20.19, while teammate Alex Peng is the ninth seed at 2:22.28. Alex Ioannisci of Maine-Endwell is the top seed at 2:08.76.

Corning’s Ryan McNutt is the top seed in the 100 free in 47.15, followed by Horseheads’ Cullin Cole in 47.70. Both are below the state time this year.

Elmira’s Andrew Degnan is the sixth seed at 53.59 while Corning’s Caden Faulk is the ninth seed at 54.80.

In the 200 free relay Corning is the second seed at 1:34.13, followed by Horseheads (1;34.96), while Elmira is the seventh seed at 1:40.71. Maine-Endwell is the top seed at 1:33.61.

Tyler Schultz of Chenango Valley is the top seed in the 100 breaststroke at 1:00.34, a state time.

Horseheads’ Keagen Winkky is the second seed in the event at 1:01.90, Winkky is .7 off the state time.

Emmett Hanson of Horseheads is the top seed in the 200 free by a wide margin at 1:46.61, a state time. His teammate at Horseheads, Andrew Villegas, is the second seed at 1:56.92. Corning’s Aiden Spoors is the fifth seed at 2:00.21.

McNutt is the top seed in the 50 free with a state time of 21.60 and Cole is the second seed at 21.88, also a state time.

Elmira’s Wesley Taft is the fourth seed at 23.59 and Corning’s Nishant Lahiri is the eighth seed at 24.11 while teammate Aidan Wilken is the 10th seed at 24.37.

In the 100 fly Jacob Rose of Elmira is the second seed at 54.70. The top seed is Xuyan Dong of Ithaca at 54.19. Horseheads’ Li Shoonfon is the sixth seed at 57.27. and teammate Andrew Schrage is the ninth seed at 1:00.53.

Hanson is the top seed in the 500 free at 4:55.58 followed by teammate Villegas at 5:22.65 and Corning’s Spoors at 5:23.13. Horseheads’ Andrew Wood is the eighth seed at 5:46.54 and Aidan Clark of Corning is the 10th seed at 5:58.20. Hanson is just three seconds off the state time coming in.

Horseheads’ Shoonfon is the top seed in the 100 back at 55.24 and Rose is the fourth seed at 1:00.43 followed by Faulk at 1:01.73. Bryson Wood of Horseheads is the seventh seed at 1:04.17 and Peng is the ninth seed at 1:05.05.

Horseheads is the top seed in the 400 free relay, with a time of 3:26.69. Corning is the third seed at 3:31.72 and Elmira is the sixth seed at 3:40.89.
