Southern Tier Sports ReportA lot more local teams are now finding themselves in the latest state basketball rankings.
While the Elmira girls have been in the rankings all year, they are now joined by Corning and Horseheads.
On the boys side the Corning boys are state ranked, while Horseheads is honorable mention.
The Corning girls are ranked 22nd in the state at 7-1 on the year. Horseheads is ranked 25th on the year. While Horseheads is 4-4 on the season, they have a win over Elmira and took St. Mary’s to double overtime, St. Mary’s is ranked 19th.
The Elmira girls are ranked 28th at 6-2 on the season.
The three teams are the only Section 4 teams ranked in Class AA. In Class A Maine-Endwell, who Elmira and Corning have wins over this year, are ranked 11th.
Section 4 has the top ranked team in the state in Class C with Newark Valley ranked first. There are three Section 4 teams ranked in the class and four ranked in Class D.
The Corning boys, who are now 8-0 on the year, are ranked 18th in the state in Class AA. Horseheads is honorable mention in the state rankings. No other Section 4 teams are ranked or honorable mention in the class.
In Class A Union-Endicott is state ranked out of the STAC at No. 11. They are 9-0 on the year.
Section 4 has the top ranked team in the state in Class B with Seton Catholic ranked first at 8-0.
Two Section 4 teams are state ranked in Class C and two more are state ranked in Class D.
