CORNING — The Horseheads Blue Raiders came away with a 2-1 overtime win over Corning on Wednesday night.
Jaxson Andrus opened the scoring in the first half off an assist from Mason Earl.
Corning got the equalizer two minutes into the second half as Ross Fucito scored off a Cooper Sargent assist.
HOrseheasd had multiple chances in the final 10 minutes of regulation, including hitting two crossbars.
Jason Lucht scored the game winner in overtime off an assist by Sebastian Garcia.
Corning had 10 shots and 10 corners and Horseheads had seven shots and eight corner kicks.
Owen Donlon had four saves for Corning and Garcia had five for Horseheads.
“Typical hard fought match in Corning with both teams leaving it all on the pitch,” Horseheads coach Mark Mucci said. “We had a couple of players out tonight who normally see a lot of minutes.
“Really proud of the guys who stepped in and stepped up to the challenge, and of the team for their intelligence on the pitch.”
Injuries had an impact on the Hawks as well in the game.
“Owen Donlon played a tremendous match in goal,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “We have been a walking mash unit, and every guy that has been called upon steps up. I couldn’t be more proud of the effort the guys put out on the field.”
