SECTION 4 FOOTBALL: ELMIRA TURNS UP DEFENSE IN WIN OVER U-E (24 PHOTOS) (2026-10-02)

ELMIRA — The Elmira Express turned up the defense in a 35-7 win over Union-Endicott on Friday night. 

Defense led to multiple touchdowns for the Express in the first half.

Union-Endicott started to drive in the first half when Darien ‘Baby’ Harris leapt up and picked off a pass to end the threat.

Elmira then got on the board with an 85-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Goble to Frankie D’Angelo. Benny Guyette hit the kick and with 5:28 left in the opening quarter it was 7-0 Elmira.

Harris had his second interception of the half, this one a 69-yard pick six. Guyette hit the extra point and at 8:53 it was 14-0.

Elmira’s defense forced a turnover on the ensuing kick return and Goble ran in from a yard out at 7:59. Guyette hit the kick to make it 21-0.

Jonathan Redar broke off a 31-yard touchdown with 3:48 left in the half and Guyette hit the kick to make it 28-0 at the half.

Elmira’s defense forced four turnovers in the opening half.

In the third quarter it was special teams making a big play as Harris had a 55-yard punt return for a score at 9:12. Guyette hit the kick to make it 35-0.

U-E’s Khalil Singleton recovered a blocked punt in the end zone as Rami Carney blocked the punt with 10:34 left in the game. Cooper Morgan made the extra point.

Redar ran for 75 yards on 10 carries and Goble ran for 24 yards. Harris had 11 yards, D’Angelo had 15 and Cole Swanson had 10 yards.

Goble was 2-for-8 for 96 yards. Along with the 85-yard touchdown by D’Angelo, Liam Ogden had an 11-yard catch. 

Ayden Matthews threw for 62 yards for U-E and Connor Wahila had four grabs fort 19 yards, while Larkin Bianco had a 31-yard catch. 

Tyshawn Moody ran for 39 yards for Elmira and Royalte Gladden ran for 34 yards.
